“The Terry Fox Research Institute has had a tremendous effect on the cancer research community in Atlantic Canada. It has brought us closer together and given us a stronger national voice. One example is the lung cancer project. The Halifax group and the St. John’s group have been part of the eight sites involved in the Pan-Canadian Lung Screening Project.
“Now, within the next two to three months in Nova Scotia we will be approaching government about a province-wide lung cancer screening program. So from the performance of a research project, we are now able to take those results to government as the newest and best way of positively impacting on this deadly disease. We are confident that this will result in real progress in terms of the diagnosis and successful treatment of lung cancer.”
