“When the Terry Fox Research Institute was formed in 2007, President Victor Ling recognized translational research was one of the priorities. That was extremely important, because it actually stimulated a lot of other groups to start to think about this kind of funding. We had identified it as a national priority – to enhance funding in translational research – but they were really the first ones to step up and design a program along those lines. TFRI also funds more thoughtfully than any other cancer research funders — excellence of the science has always been prominent, and that’s really important.”
